Milestones, the heat and butter, lots of butter

Christmas research

This might scare people but if you’re like me then you are probably starting to get just the teensiest bit excited about Christmas right? Last weekend I got out my rather large stash of Christmas magazines and started planning my Christmas posts. I have contained myself so far but I think I might go and buy this year’s editions next week.

Roast chicken

Brown rice salad

This time last week we were entertaining Will’s sister and her husband and Ollie’s 10 week old little cousin. They were out all the way from Shanghai and it was great to catch up and meet my new niece. I served a roast chicken and Moroccan brown rice salad. The chicken was roughly based on this recipe but I pretty much just mixed up a whole lot of butter with Moroccan spices and shoved it under the skin then stuck some lemon wedges inside (I’m so delicate).

Butter makes everything taste good doesn’t it? The salad recipe was adapted from this quinoa salad recipe I got from a friend in mother’s group. I love it so much I’ve made it twice already. It’s great because you can throw in any veges you like/have. Must photograph it properly next time so I can share it.

Sunday relaxing

I was pooped that afternoon and had a bit of a chill out on the couch with my book. I’m so happy to finally be getting a little bit of time to read. Any recommendations for me?

Hot

I always know it’s going to be a hot day if the coconut oil is in liquid form at 7am. This week was so hot Ollie and Will went for a swim after work at 6pm on Tuesday.

Jasmine in bloom

The heat has brought the garden into its own though. I can’t help but smile every time I see the front of our house. The Jasmine is just so beautiful and smells amazing.

Home harvest

It has also meant some pretty good home harvests. This lot, minus the strawberries went into a chicken stock I made with the roast chicken carcass. I am getting good at waste not want not.

Big boy car seat

It was a pretty big week for my little man too. He is now forward facing in the car. It didn’t seem to change the sulking (he hates the car seat and the pram) but at least we can chat now.

9 months old

On Wednesday he turned 9 months old. The time is flying by and I am trying my best to treasure every moment. It’s hard not to when you have such a cute kid. I know I’m his mum and I’m biased but he is absolutely beautiful inside and out and makes us laugh like crazy (cue mum tears in my eyes). Yes his hair is insane. I can’t go anywhere without people stopping me to comment.

Sleepy

He had a sleep in the car on the way to mother’s group and creepy mum parked outside and watched him sleep. Another positive of the chair! Is that creepy? He’s just so cute when he’s asleep.

Mischief

When he’s awake he is totally crazy and into everything. He thinks it’s hilarious. I asked on the Facebook page if anyone had any tips for teaching him ‘no.’ Apparently I need to learn to use those childproof cupboard locks.

So what about you? How was your week?
